Satis House Hotel

Satis HouseOur first visit to East Anglia, offers a gem of a venue at Satis House.
Owned by Chiu and Chris Blackmore. Chiu is Malaysian, as is the hotel restaurant, sowith the perfume of spicy cooking in the air, there is be no better venue to hold our Introducing India course. But if you want to try Chiu’s Malaysian cooking, you’ll need to book before or after our course. And why not? It is truly superb.

As for Satis House, the Blackmores have been there since 1987, and in that time have transformed the venue with their own personality. As you come up the long drive, you feel an immediate air of calm, peace and beauty. Rabbits and squirrels scamper before you. And there in front you is the house.

It’s an AA 2 star / 1 Rosette hotel in an 18th century grade 2 listed country house, in three acres of parkland. Charles Dickens lived nearby and is sure to have visited his friends there. Indeed was it this house which is mentioned in Great Expectations?
Satis House” says Pip.
That’s a curious name.”
It’s Greek or Latin or Hebrew, maybe all three, for enough” she replied.
It means that whoever lives in the house could wish for nothing more.”

We agree. All rooms have ensuite facilities. Two are ‘superior’ rooms, one with a four poster, the other with a half-tester bed and an antique bath. Both rooms have lovely views. All the rooms are sympathetically furnished to complement the hotel. However, be warned, Satis house has only seven double/twin rooms, and our course takes 20 people. So we have made bed and breakfast arrangements for six of our guests to stay in a really nice B&B opposite. We’ll fill the hotel first, and on a first come/first served basis. So please do not delay placing your booking.

The hotel is ideally situated for exploring this wonderfully unspoilt part of Suffolk. Visits can be made to Aldeburgh’s pretty ancient seaside town, Snape Maltings where the annual music festival started by Benjamin Britten is held, the Minsmere Bird Sanctuary, or Framlington Castle.
