Wednesday 6th April, 2011

You will be guaranteed a warm welcome at Windsors, best Indian restaurant - Mango Lounge. Executive Chef, Ashwani Kumar, leads a highly skilled brigade, who will ensure, you experience a memorable Indian meal. His menu has been chosen with care and all dishes are authentic, innovative and beautifully served.

Introducing the talented team! Vishal stands on the left with Deepak, then Manoj, two of our lovely waiters, and, Executive Chef Ashwani Kumar on the right. If the restaurant is full, and it is very likely to be fully booked on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, you may have to perch on a bar stool, sip your cocktail and nibble on popadoms while you wait for a table.

'Tiger Prawn Martini - giant warm water prawns wrapped in rice flakes and deep-fried. Presented in a shot glass layered with a trio of chutneys and topped with a dash of martini - £9.50.' Pat is served a delicate plate of, 'Chilli Scallops - seared scallops with chilli, chives and coriander, served with green peas - £9.50.'

A little palate cleanser of Mango Sorbet, with a tart Raspberry sauce - delicious! The main course - substantial portions served here! 'Lamb Shank Rogan Josh - a new twist on this classic dish where lamb shank is simmered in a rich onion and yoghurt sauce with Kashmiri chillies £14.75,' 'Chicken Hyderabadi - breast of chicken stuffed with spinach, raisins and cashew nuts cooked in a rich South Indian-style sauce with coconut and curry leaves £13.50,' Dominique really loves this dish and, 'Lal Maas - a fiery lamb curry from Western India. Cubes of lamb steeped in a spice-laced yoghurt marinade and cooked with a generous amount of chillies and spices with cardamom and cummin £13.75.'

The Lal Maas is served with a lovely side salad of sliced red onion, lime wedges and fresh green chillies on cocktail sticks - obviously ordered for Pat! A more moderate portion of, 'Venison Masala - roe deer in a superb tomato sauce spiced with chilli, cummin and garam masala £15.75,' served with 'Pullao Rice - topped with finely sliced and crispy fried onions £3.00,' and of course, the indispensible, 'Bread Basket - including light and fluffy Podina Naan with light and crispy Garlic Naan, both £2.50 each.'
