We were lucky enough to be invited, by General Manager, Sherin Alexander, to an Indian wine tasting evening, at the multi award-winning La Porte des Indes Restaurant. It was a unique opportunity to sample Sula Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc wines from Nashik - often referred to as India's Napa Valley, along with wines from Ritu in the Sahyadra Valley, northern Maharashtra - Viognier, Syrah Blush Rosé, Cabernet Sauvignon and both Ritu Barrique Reserves -  Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 and Shiraz 2008. While we sampled the different grape varieties, we were treated to delicious snacks from Executive Chef Mehernosh Mody.

 

'Eclectic Wines from the Indian Subcontinent'

The Ritu Blush, '...an attracive salmon-pink wine with a mesmerising bouquet of violets, roses, strawberries and sweet spices...' was lovely and refreshing. Well chilled bottles of Sula Chenin Blanc, '...an inspiring golden creation with an enticing blend of bananas, guava and fresh apples...' and Sula Sauvignon Blanc, '...a lovely light sunny yellow colour with wonderful aromas of asparagus, gooseberry, melons, green pepper and herbs...'

'Mini Masala Dosa'

Photos Above: When the Dosas are just cooked, Chef tops them with a spicy Potato Curry, cooked with turmeric, mustard seeds and curry leaves. The Chef flips over half of the Dosa, covering the Potato Curry mixture. A delicious, 'Mini Masala Dosa,' traditionally served with wonderful, 'Green Coconut Chutney.'

 

'Goan Pork Vindaloo'
