Where can I get those hard-to-find items? |
Ingredients Suppliers
We pioneered a mail order service for spices and ingredients in 1982.
We regret we no longer offer this service (apart from one or two really specialist items such as beetroot powder. Click here to buy this).
Today most spices are readily available at supermarkets and good delis. But they are often expensive brands and never provide a full range.

Natco
We recommend Natco's long-established Indian product ranges, available at all Asian stores. Their plastic spice tubs are the tops and their range of general ingredients is enormous and high quality.
If you can't get to an Asian store, they sell online at:

Seasoned Pioneers
This company, run with passion by founder Mark Steene and his gang sells spices, seasonings, mixes and items from around the tasty world.Pat and Dominique say: One of the best websites we know. Which isn't surprising because their ranges are just as excellent. Their packaging makes ordinary ingredients look fantastic. But who said Seasoned Pioneers do the ordinary. Two of our favourites are Ras el Hanout and Naga chillies and to find out what they are you'll have to visit www.seasonedpioneers.co.uk Hi Pat,
Why not try Seasoned Pioneers? Living in Spain it is good to have a supplier and I receive within a few days. I enjoy your wesbite, and your book which I bought on my last visit to the UK. Keep up the good work.
Kind regards from sunny Spain,
Eileen Allen

Redmoor.
Just been bought your wonderful "New Curry Bible" by my wife for our wedding anniversary and came across your web page. I have found a good herb/spice online supplier not on your list. 'The Spice Jar',
Hi there Pat, I have just launched a new spice brand called 'The Spice Jar' selling spices which are freshly roasted, ground and immediately vacuum packed (I mean really vac packing so the spice feels hard in the foil pouch). Call me on 0871 504 5845 for any more information. Yours, Ghazala Jabeen. e:ghazala@tigger.co.uk_________________________________________________________________________
Hard to Find Foods
QuestionI've been a fan of the Curry Club for many years, and I have three of your books which get weekly use. I have a question for you in your role of sage ... Inspired by a Goan colleague, I am trying to find a number of Goan drinks/ingredients, but am having the devil's own time finding them! We are after coconut and cashew feni, coconut vinegar and toddy... Have you any leads that might get us closer to an importer or shop that has them? Chris Claydon
Answer: An outfit called Hard to Find Foods www.hardtofindfoods.co.uk describe themselves by asking this question: 'Are we your missing ingredient?' That's for you to answer.
Relevant to the curryholic their spice range is largely by Seasoned Pioneers (see above) but the most interesting product (to this sage!) is Palm Vinegar which they describe as: opaque coloured vinegar from South-east Asia and particulary favoured in the Philippines. Made from the sap of palm trees. Used in dishes like Vindaloo / Sorpotel or the Philippines Adobo and in Indian and South-east Asian table pickles.. It is the vital ingredient for authentic Goan Vindaloo.
