"When on earth are you coming back down to earth, £14.95 +pp for a curry guide !!?. It's time you got back to basics with the £6.99 book you used to publish that was available from all good book sellers.  Get real !!"

Pat replies:

Woops!  Did we have a bad day Frank/Francis?? I don’t know why I’m bothering to reply to your wind-up but I think others will enjoy reading your remarks on my website. I had to look up when the Guide retailed at £6.99. It was May 1995 (Fourth edition). I don’t know where you have been for the last 13 years, Frank, but you just may have noticed that prices have risen just ever so slightly! Just out of interest I have run the 1995 price of  £6.99 on a  cost of Living calculator on www.measuringworth.com and it comes out at £9.69 in the 2007 value

However there is more to it than that.
The current (2007) Guide has 421 pages against  288 pages, (31% larger)
It  measures 210 x 150 x 16mm against 195 x 100 x 15mm  (54% larger)
It  contains over 1000 restaurants against 600 (34% more)
It  is in full colour throughout against mono (c40% dearer)
It is on art (glossy) paper against 80gsm cheaper (matt) paper (15% dearer)

Despite all that, the current edition retails on my online shop for just £7.50 + £2.50 p&p.

Since you have emailed your comment directly from my website, I presume that you either ignored or didn’t notice that fact.

Now, would you like to order a copy?

I bet you don’t answer this.

Best wishes

Pat

Bad debts

Our blogs will start in the New year by naming those advertisers and others who have failed to pay us in 2007. (unless they pay, of course.) Should get the lawyers buzzing. No more than we are! So who are these bad guys?

Watch this space!!!

Labour shortage?

Many Indian restaurants are complaining of labour shortage due to stricter immigration controls. Yet we are awash with eastern Europeans prepared to do the long hours. But many restaurants say theye cannot use them if they don’t speak Bengali /Hindi. We will develop this story. Meanwhile do you have a view?
