'...What’s the Big Curry all about?
'The Soldiers’ Charity Big Curry is our month-long flagship fundraiser that takes place every April. Becoming a Big Curry host is an easy and social way for people to raise money for soldiers, former soldiers and their families. Being a Big Curry host can be as simple as a beer and Balti with friends or as adventurous as organising a Gala Curry event...'
When you enter the amazingly beautiful Guildhall's Great Hall, (and you will have to queue 'cos it is seriously busy!), you are greeted with a very full and noisy room. After you have collected your drink at the bar, there is a choice of Cobra Beer, red or white wine and soft drinks, prepare to fight your way, through all the serving army personnel, (enjoying the Cobra!) to the delicious Indian buffet cooked by Lord Gulam Noon's team. Gulam supples curries and accompaniments to Sainsburys and Waitrose - so standards are high and his chefs are on hand to help you decide which Indian delights you wish to try.
Then your next challenge is to find a seat! Seating is banquet style and everyone is very welcoming, so don't worry if you don't know anyone. I sat next to the head of the British Army, (although I didn't know this at the time) and he very kindly queued for my meal - I was just too lazy to do it myself! Tables are beautifully laid with white linen and the most lavish flower and foliage decorations. On this particular occassion, coloured poppies were the centre piece. Emma, thought they were chosen because we celebrate the lives of our fallen soldiers with poppies.
Pat chats to his dining partner, amidst the beautiful oriental poppies.
