Tabouleh (Lebanon) Green Leaf Salad with Burghul (cracked wheat). Fresh herbs, with olive oil fresh lemon juice and spiced with baharat.
Hummous (Lebanon) Chickpea, olive oil, garlic and sesame paste (tahine) puréed, Served cold. Make it (easy and tastier), don't buy that chemical concotion
Mutabbel (Levant) Aubergine and Tahine dip Baked charred aubergine pureéd with sesame paste (tahine), served cold.
Hot Mezze - Either Shahlik Kebabs (Armenia) Marinated lamb cubes skewered with onion and peppers, and oven-baked.
OR Suzuc (Turkey) Pronounced Sooch-ook. Turkish sausage, not dissimilar to chorizo, sliced, fried and served hot.
Falafel (Isreal and Egypt) Chick pea croquettes.
Pitta Bread We don't make it from scratch, but halve it and heat it to crisp in the toaster, and hey presto, it's a totally original presentation! - With Middle Eastern pickles
- Main Course:
Chicken in a sauce of spices, almond, pomegranate (sour) & molasses (sweet).
OR
• Mechoui Kafta Bil Karaz Saudi) Meat Balls with Cherries
Small minced chicken breast balls (kafta), with herbs and spices, simmered in red sauce with cherry tomatoes and red cherries*. *subject to availabilty.
• Kiymeh Mashwi (Yemen/Oman) Mince & Chickpea Curry. Aromatically spicy curried mince beef, derived from Indian Keema.
• Bras Tahni (Armenia) Leeks with Walnut
Thinly sliced leeks sautéed with garlic and herbs garnished with whole walnuts.
• Mishmisheya La Kama (Maghreb)
Spicy vegetables in apricot (mishmish) oven-baked.
• Riz El Tammar (Libya) Fragrant rice with fresh dates and pine nuts.
Dessert
• Irmik Helvasi (Turkey)
Much tastier than it sounds, semolina is slowly fried with smen (clalrified butter), pine nuts, cream, vanilla and palm sugar. Can be served hot or cold.
